Dear 2009 Phillies:

Thank you for what has been an amazing season. You’ve been resilient, clutch at all the right moments, dominant in others, and most of all you’ve embodied the hard-working-everyman identity of my beloved hometown. You’re loaded with homegrown talent and have added pieces to the puzzle that have made this team as good (if not better) than the team that won it all last year. Last year you changed the attitude of an entire city that had lost hope. This year, you have the opportunity to establish a dynasty. It won’t be easy, but nothing in Philadelphia is. It’s time to change the game. You dominated the Yankees Monday night, would-be comeback or no. Tonight you face Andy Pettite with the opportunity to keep pouring it on. Chase, what better place to officially dethrone Mr. October than across the street from the place where he was born? Ryan, it’s time for the sleeping giant to wake up. Pedro, you’ve never lost an elimination game, and now’s not the time to start, because you have the chance to let Cole Hamels prove to us that he really WON’T quit.

I’ll be watching you guys tomorrow night, and it doesn’t feel like you’re the underdogs. Keep your swagger and keep believing in yourselves. All you have to do is win two more games.
